2 The Coast Ranges extend from Alaska to Mexico
The Coast Ranges extend from Alaska to Mexico. Familiar Mountain ranges are he Alaska Range, Olympic Mountains, the Cascade Range, and the Sierra Nevada Range.

3 Deserts lie between the mountain ranges
Deserts lie between the mountain ranges. They are the Great Basin, Mojave, and the Sonoran Deserts. The Chihuahuan Desert extends from southern New Mexico and Texas into Mexico.

4 The Rocky Mountains run from Alaska to New Mexico, and extend southward into Mexico. In Mexico, they are called the Sierra Madres.

5 The Interior Plains cover much of central Canada and the North-Central region of the United States. The driest western part is called the Great Plains.

6 The Canadian Shield is a large are of ancient rock that covers most of eastern Canada.

7 The Appalachian Mountains extend from Quebec to Alabama
The Appalachian Mountains extend from Quebec to Alabama. Some familiar mountains in this range are the White Mountains, Green Mountains, and the Catskill Mountains.

8 Coastal lowlands stretch along the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

9 Central America is an isthmus that connects the southern part of North America to South America.
