The interaction and presumably isomerization (inset) of Ser-phosphorylated HBV X-protein (HBx) by the prolyl isomerase Pin1 increases the half-life of the viral protein. This results in the synergistic increase in the expression of HBx-target genes involved in HCC cell growth, survival, and tumorigenic potential.
