Case Study: Quebec Quebec did not sign the Constitution Act of 1982, it held two referenda Resulted in the Meech Lake Accord, trying to get provinces to compromise to get a single agreement– failed Charlottetown Accord 1992, also failed Secession- formal withdrawl of any province A referendum on separation must be based on a clear question and win a ‘clear majority’

Workers in Canada have a legal right to negotiate with employers for better wage and working conditions Some groups form Trade Unions Unionized workers have the right to strike 1) collective bargaining 2) Mediation 3) Arbitration

The CCLA is a non profit, non governmental organization supporting the democratic right to dissent Works to keep reasonable limits as broad as possible Uses public forums to oppose attempts by the government and courts that infringe upon individual rights Pg 136

Positive Ways to Effect Change
Service Clubs- allow citizens to socialize and at the same time, contribute to society. This year, 6.5 million volunteers will help 180,000 charities
