4. Why African Slaves??
Europeans needed to produce A LOT in the colonies in order to profit according to Mercantilism.
Problem: Native American “workers” kept dying or escaping!
Solution: Bring over African slaves!
They are immune to most European Diseases
They are experienced farmers
They don’t know the area – so they will be totally dependent on us and unable to escape!!
