Formed as West Virginia High School Athletic Association – June 17, 1916
Changed to WVSSAC in 1955
Started with 11 charter members – presently 126 high schools, 158 middle schools

About the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) cont.:
The NFHS, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the national leadership organization for high school sports and fine arts activities. Since 1920, the NFHS has led the development of education-based interscholastic sports and fine arts activities that help students succeed in their lives. The NFHS sets direction for the future by building awareness and support, improving the participation experience, establishing consistent standards and rules for competition, and helping those who oversee high school sports and activities. The NFHS writes playing rules for 17 sports for boys and girls at the high school level. Through its 50 member state associations and the District of Columbia, the NFHS reaches more than 18,500 high schools and 11 million participants in high school activity programs, including more than 7 million in high school sports.

County school boards may create a virtual school policy whereby students could
Take all classes online
A blended program of instruction
Students must be enrolled for the equivalent of 4 periods a day
All grades from this policy must be transcripted
Students must meet all eligibility requirements for athletic participation

ALL COACHES will be required to annually complete the NFHS Concussion Course – Senate Bill 336
The principal shall monitor and maintain appropriate records regarding completion of the course
ANY COACH that does not complete the NFHS Concussion Course annually will not be permitted to coach until the course has been completed and would be in violation of the law.

23. Concussion Return to Play (RTP) Protocol
An athlete removed from a contest that shows signs/symptoms of a concussion shall be immediately evaluated by an appropriate health care professional. If no appropriate health care professional with training in evaluation of head injuries is available, the athlete shall not be allowed to RTP.
REQUIREMENT) No more than one progression step per day is permitted.

28. ACCOMMODATIONS Accommodation must be reasonable
Accommodation must be safe for able bodied athletes as well as the athlete with the disability
Accommodation cannot create an advantage for the disabled athlete
Disabled athlete must play at same skill level as other members of team to earn a spot

29. TITLE IX – “3 – PRONG TEST”
Equal opportunities for both males and females school must show:
% of male & female athletes are about the same as the % of male and female students enrolled at the school
History and a continuing practice of expanding athletic opportunities for female students, since they usually have been the ones given fewer opportunities to play
The school is fully meeting female athletes’ interests and abilities
