1 Attendance Policy

2 Do you know the Attendance Policy. Do you know what a No Grade is
Do you know the Attendance Policy? Do you know what a No Grade is? Do you know how many absences and tardies you are allowed before you receive an “NG”? Do you know what to do if you end up with an “NG”? Can you read an attendance print out?

3 Lets find out what you know!!!
Take out a blank sheet of paper Put your name in the upper right hand corner Put the title “Attendance Policy” on the top center line Check to see how well your students following instructions….congratulate those who have done it right. This is a great time to reinforce.

4 Part 1- Attendance Codes What do the following attendance codes mean?
Number you paper from 1-11 and write what each attendance code/letter indicates. A B Z N V W T L G E Q

5 How did you doing? (Write your score out of 11 off to the right)
A = Unexcused Absence B = Made-up Absence Z = Sluff/Truancy N = School Excused Activity V = Vacation Release W = Way Late (15 minutes or more) T = Tardy L = Made-up Tardy G = Guardian Excused Absence E = Excused Absence Q = Counselor Conference

6 Part 2- “No Grades” How many tardies are you allowed per class per quarter before your grade becomes an “NG”? How many absences can you have per class per quarter before your grade becomes an “NG”? (Hint: This answer is the same as the answer to #11) Which attendance codes count against you when it comes to absences? If you are caught “sluffing” what are the consequences?

7 Are you Acing this? What is your score now?
You are allowed 3 tardies/class/quarter. On the 4th tardy your grade becomes an “NG” You are allowed 3 absences/class/quarter. On the 4th absence your grade becomes an “NG” A, G, W all count against you when it comes to absences. A sluff, or Z, is an automatic “NG” and a lovely call home to mom and dad from an Assistant Principal.

8 Part 3- Ugggh, I have an “NG”
Your grade is showing an “NG” what do you do? Explain.

9 Do you know what to do? Answer #15
15. If you get an “NG” you will… Go to the main office and buy an attendance school ticket. Check the school calendar, the attendance office, or the main office to find out when attendance school is. (It generally starts around mid-terms and is held before and after school and on Saturdays) Go To ATTENDANCE SCHOOL

10 Part 4- Can you read an attendance printout?

11 16. How many attendance school classes does this student need to make up for 3rd period? And how much will it cost him? 05/31/2013 Fri - B- B- B /30/2013 Thu B /24/2013 Fri - A- A- A /23/2013 Thu N- N- N /22/2013 Wed - A- A- A /20/2013 Mon G /17/2013 Fri T- - - A- - 05/15/2013 Wed T- - 05/14/2013 Tue A- A- A- A /10/2013 Fri G /30/2013 Tue - T /29/2013 Mon A- - A- A- - 04/26/2013 Fri - A- A- T /24/2013 Wed G- G

12 Answer #16 This student will need to attend 1- 1 hour class and it will cost him $2.

13 17. How many hours of attendance school does this student have for 3rd period? And what will it cost? Explain. 03/26/2013 Tue A- A 03/13/2013 Wed - - T 03/05/2013 Tue G- G- G- G 03/04/2013 Mon W- - 03/01/2013 Fri - - T 02/28/2013 Thu T- - 02/22/2013 Fri G- G- G- G 02/11/2013 Mon - - J 02/08/2013 Fri G- G- G- - - 02/05/2013 Tue A- - A- A 01/28/2013 Mon G 01/04/2013 Fri G- G- G- G 12/21/2012 Fri G- G- G- G- - 12/12/2012 Wed - - A- A 12/10/2012 Mon - - T 12/06/2012 Thu - - T 12/04/2012 Tue - - T

14 Answer #17 The student has 5 tardies…that is 2 too many. So she will have to buy 2 attendance school tickets which will cost her $4 and she will have to go to an hours worth of attendance school (1/2 hour/tardy). The student also has 5 absences that count against her…again 2 too many. She’ll have to buy 2 more ticket at a cost of $4 snd she will have to go to 2 hours worth of attendance school. TOTAL: $8 and 3 hours worth of attendance school

15 18. Does this student have any “NG’s”. Explain.
03/26/2013 Tue A- A 03/13/2013 Wed - - T Z- - 03/05/2013 Tue 03/04/2013 Mon W- - 03/01/2013 Fri - - T 02/28/2013 Thu T- - 02/26/2013 Mon G 02/04/2013 Fri N- N- N- N

16 Answer #18 Yes, this student has a “NG” in 8th period because he sluffed class on March 13th. This will cost him $2 and 1 hour of attendance school….and a lovely phone call home.

17 19. Wow…what is going on 8th period. Attendance school
19. Wow…what is going on 8th period? Attendance school? If so, how much and why? 03/26/2013 Tue A- A 03/13/2013 Wed - - T T- - 03/05/2013 Tue T- - 03/04/2013 Mon W- - 03/01/2013 Fri - - T A- - 02/28/2013 Thu T- - 02/26/2013 Mon G A- - 02/04/2013 Fri N- N- N- N W- -

18 Answer #19 1 hour of attendance school and $2.
A “W” counts against your absences, not your tardies. So this student has 1 too many absences.

19 Have you had enough yet? How about two more question?
20. How do “E’s” (excused absences) fit into the attendance policy? 21. What are “V’s”? And how do they work?

20 Answers to #20 & 21 20. “E’s” are excused absences. They do not count against your absence total. In order to get your attendance marked as an “E” you must bring in documentation that you were at the doctor, dentist, court, or a immediate family members wedding or funeral. “E”’s are to be excused within 5 days. 21. “V”’s are marked if you have applied for vacation release in advance. You do this by picking up a form in the attendance office and taking it around to all of your teachers. “V”’s do not count against your absence totals. FYI- Even though “E”’s and “V”’s don’t count against your attendance you are still responsible to make up the work in your classes.

21 Well, How did you do? 15 or less correct? You might want to read the student handbook. You are not quite proficient…71% 15-17 correct? You are getting closer to the proficiency mark …80% 18-21? Not too shabby… I might come to you to explain why I have an NG.

22 be in the right place at the right time
So, Remember 4-4-1 4 absences will result in an “NG” 4 tardies will result in an “NG” 1 sluff will result in an “NG” Attendance school costs time and money….so be in the right place at the right time
