The Fall of the u.s.s.r By Evelyn A. Martínez-Burgos

2 Romanian Revolution This image represents the need to be independent. The Romanians saw the abuse and the use of the USSR on them and wanted the liberty it deserved.

3 Prague Spring The armed against the unarmed. What started out as a peaceful protest for independence ended up as a government attack against them. In the end, independence was won with a high price: innocent blood.

4 Gorbachev appointed as communist party general secretary
Before being appointed, already was the USSR doomed for an end, but his ideas took it further down. His thoughts of providing a better future for his country went a but against his communist country, although it provided a better future.

5 Velvet Revolution An extremely peaceful revolution. Independence was won in a year and elections were cast by that time, yet, Czechs and Slovaks weren’t having happy moments. Peacefully, this two divided, crating the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

6 Fall of the Berlin Wall The end of sadness and the beginning of a hopeful happiness. The wall divided many, especially families and the end of this division was unity that ended the difference of both side, communism falling in East Germany and the USSR and democracy ruling the unified Germany.

7 Why in this order? I started with the Romanian Revolution first, not only because it was one of the first countries who looked independence from the USSR, but because a demonstration that the USSR was willing to fight to keep order. The Prague Spring is another sad example, as the people had been peaceful and wanted no fight, and yet, the Soviet Union spilled blood to maintain order. Gorbachev insisted on making his country better and his beliefs were an omen to the fall of the Soviet Union. The Velvet Revolution is important as well, as it showed that the USSR was falling as it gave the independence of Czechoslovakia, even though this country divided into two later on. The fall of the Berlin Wall was the last straw and it came in the end for the USSR. The Soviet Union might have put a fight in the beginning, but money was an important factor to keep the Soviet Union together, but in the end, there was nothing to do.
