3 Stereotype definition
A commonly held assumption about a group of people which is often based on some kind of reality but is essentially untrue and usually prejudicial.

4 TASK ONE: Identify at least two stereotypes for the following groups

9 Young boys

10 Female drivers

11 Black British teenage boys

12 Japanese man

13 Consider the following questions and write your answers in your book

14 Are all stereotypes negative?

15 Why does it matter if stereotypes are used?

16 TASK TWO: Why might the following media platforms use stereotypes?
TV adverts Red top newspapers Action films Male rap videos

17 TASK THREE 1. Watch the three videos and identify whether or not stereotypes are used. 2. Consider how they are conveyed and why.

21 PLENARY How did the videos make you feel about the groups? How influential might they be on other audiences? Does the media have an obligation to represent fairly and positively?
