5. The Simpsons are an extreme example of stereotyping
The Simpsons are an extreme example of stereotyping. Identify the stereotypes for each character.
The characters may be dysfunctional but the audience still like them. Can you explain why.

6. Think about how stereotypes are used:
Often stereotypes are used in the media to provide instant recognition of ideas and characters. It is easy to rely on the audience’s existing ideas instead of spending time developing character. This results in many character in film and TV being almost identifiable and certain actors always playing the same roles.

7. Watch the clip and write down any stereotypes that you can see.
