2 Who? Germans Lead by General Von Falkenhayn French
Lead by General Philippe Petain General Joffre was the commander-in-chief of the French armies. Verdun led to fall of his military power.

3 When? Where? The Battle of Verdun took place
from February to December 1916. Where? It took place on the western front of the war, in Verdun. This was in North-Eastern-France

7 Impacts on War It was the turning point in the use of artillery (French Creeping artillery barrage). Bite and hold tactics were developed. Small unit infantry used more widely in the war. This battle was a Turning point in allies favor. Hindenburg and Ludendorff replaced Falkenhayn on German west front. Nivelle replaced Joffre as commander of French forces.

8 Impacts on Europe An Estimated 700,000 men died in Verdun, of which 150,000 were never identified. The landscape around Verdun was completely demolished by artillery shells. Nine villages that surrounded Verdun were completely destroyed. Soldiers that survived returned to an alien world. Led to The French Army Mutiny of 1917
