KITTY HOG-NOSED BAT BY TATE HIXSON

DESCRIPTION The Kitty Hog-Nosed Bat has a very unique look to it. It is the smallest bat in the world! It weighs less than ¼ of an ounce and is about 1 inch in length. It has large ears considering the size of its body. The coloring of this bat is very different than most bats. It is usually red or gray, sometimes yellow. They have a snout that it similar to a hog, and this snout is black.

HABITAT There is very few places were the Kitty hog nosed bat lives. They usually live in Thailand, but they have been found in Burma. They like to live in limestone caves but these caves let light stream in and can affect their winter rest. Because of this they can live in swamp-like forest areas.

DIET AND FEEDING HABITS
Since the kitty hog nosed bat lives near water they can find plenty of insects near there. They typically eat insects, but they can eat small frogs. They rarely stop to eat, they usually feed while in flight.

BEHAVIOR Unlike most bats, the Kitty hog nosed bat does not form large colonies. Also, this bat does not rely on body heat for warmth. Their body runs very hot all the time. This is why, when there roosting, they are constantly flapping their wings.
