What is a governor? Each state has a governor. In Wyoming, the people vote for and elect a governor every four years. The governor’s job is to carry out laws, run the executive branch, propose new laws, and veto laws that they disagree with. The governor is basically the leader of a state. Open Questions: Would you want to be a governor? Why or why not? What do you think you would have to do to be elected?

Wyoming was not only the first place in the United States where women could vote, but also had the first female governor, first female justice of the peace, first all-woman jury, and first woman bailiff (in the world).

What is a Governors’ Mansion?
States like Wyoming often build a large house for their governors. It’s called a governors’ mansion. The governor and her/his family gets to live in it for free while s/he is governor. Open Question: Why do you think states build houses for their governors?

How old is the Mansion? Old. Over a hundred years old! It was built in Originally, it was going to be HUGE with 15 bedrooms and a solarium. But for some reason, the government decided to make it a little smaller. ...maybe so it would be easier to clean! Open Question The Governors’ Mansion was not built with a fence to keep people out. Why do you think the government decided to build it without a fence?
