Figure Several specific mechanisms are likely involved in the development of very early onset inflammatory bowel disease (VEOIBD). These include defects of epithelial barrier in the intestine, defects of phagocytosis, defects of T cells and/or B cells, dysregulation of the immune system, defects in genes of rare monogenic disorders and defects in genes of other hyper or autoimmune diseases.
