Why uPortal?
Early Versions of SCT Campus Pipeline Solutions Software
The big orange pie chart represents all the software capabilities that Campus Pipeline provided prior to our involvement with uPortal. As you can see, we had quite a broad set of capabilities. However, you’ll notice there was one area of functionality where we were weak– end user customization features. As it turns out this is a primary strength of the uPortal framework. As it turns out, combining the technologies made sense because Campus Pipeline’s and uPortal’s strengths are complimentary with minimal overlap.

4. A comprehensive solution
SCT Luminis Software
Adding uPortal to our code base fills the end user customization needs that we previously had. In addition we are now able to benefit from uPortal’s channel development framework and the publish/subscribe content model.

5. SCT Luminis Product Family
All the work that we’ve done with uPortal has ended up in our Luminis Product Family. This is another look at Luminis to help people understand what Luminis is made of. Some people think Luminis is just uPortal with some enhancements, others think they could create Luminis on their own by buying Sun One components, Documentum, and uPortal and cobbling them together. This slide demonstrates that all the code delivered with Luminis does come from many different sources, but most importantly CP has added a significant amount of code to tie everything together as well as add value on top. The CP innovation added to the Luminis offering (the greenish color pies) represents a significant amount of development time and cost.

6. What it looks like
For those of you familiar with uPortal you’ll note that Luminis has a familiar look. Familiar UI elements common to both uPortal and Luminis include: Tabs, Columns, and the channelization concept, as well as end user controls for subscribing to channels and customizing a personal layout.
