2. What is a Verb? A word that expresses action, being, or state of being
All sentences have at least one main verb.
Some sentences have helping verbs that “help” the main verb.
Verbs have “tenses” that show whether something is happening now, has happened, or will happen.

3. Action Verbs Sarah drove to the store. I ate the last piece of pizza.
Verbs that express action—(The subject of the sentence DOES, DID, or WILL DO something.)
Sarah drove to the store.
I ate the last piece of pizza.
Andrea raked the leaves outside.
The mechanic will finish the oil change after lunch.

4. Linking Verbs The view appeared breathtaking. I am sorry.
Verbs that connect the subject to something that describes or renames the subject—do not show action.
The view appeared breathtaking.
I am sorry.
She seemed nervous yesterday.
They have been sick all week.

5. Helping Verbs Would May Might Must Can Could
A small verb that helps a main verb in a sentence.
Michael has arrived.
I must speak to him.
We are planning a trip.
