1 Why chose Atmospheric Re-Entry
By James Emerson Parkus

2 Never been performed but missions have been developed
There are 2 missions that have been created and 1 that has been written about, it’s a project proposal by E. Venkatapathy CORVUS Developed from University of Texas at Austin by James Furlong RICE Developed at Georgia Tech, in association with NASA and Elojet Nano-ADEPT Written and Created by E. Venkatapathy

3 Feasibility Launch to ISS
Launch from ISS with highly eccentric orbit so it intersects with earth’s surface Center of Drag and Center of Gravity will be oriented specifically to orient the CubeSat in certain direction during Atmospheric Re-Entry A honeycomb structure will be used for carbon phenolic to provide impact absorption upon landing Landing force can range from 180 to 250 G’s Embedded TPS Sensors will capture: Heat Flux, Peak Heat Load, Peak heating point, velocity, acceleration Carbon Phenolic Heat Shield Can be made “in-house” at composites lab “Dirt-Cheap” – according to Professor Charlie Eastwood 2-D Trajectory is in final stages of development, but still has work to be done for code optimization MATLAB/Simulink

4 Unique Honeycomb structure for high impact landing
No other project has entered the CLSI “competition”, so we could be the first Would create new pathways for biological experiments, or any experiment that must be returned to earth for laboratory analysis Non-mechanical Structure

5 Current stage The 2-D trajectory code is coming along
Multiple problems and bugs have been solved One persisting problem is a reciprocal of variable with 0 magnitude, resulting in an undefined value Carbon Phenolic Heat Shield will be discussed with several professor during the summer (early summer) If project is continued with, it will hopefully be developed by the end of the summer Solidworks model Heat shield is modeled (with moderate precision) Main body has not been developed (due to complexity and my level of proficiency)
