1 Navigating the Human Age
Jorge Perez Senior Vice President, North America

2 The world of work is changing…
The world stands on the brink of a global employability crisis – an over-supply of available workers and an under-supply of qualified talent. This is a frustrating and complex issue for job-seekers in the short-term as unemployment remains high, and employers in the long-term as global forces dictate the availability of talent. So for the next XX minutes or so, we’re going to talk about this talent shortage issue. We’ll start with a brief discussion of global forces that are dramatically changing labor markets throughout the world. Then, we’ll get specific about the looming talent shortage as we talk about the results of ManpowerGroup’s most recent survey. Finally, we’ll talk about the importance of developing a comprehensive workforce strategy for your organization. My objective is that I change your thinking about the availability of the talent you need. And that you change your approach to the talent you currently have in your organization as well as how you plan to recruit and retain in the future. My goal is that you come away from this presentation with more knowledge about what’s going on in the labor force and, more specifically, with a few solutions that will help your organization get and keep the talent it needs. Transition: Before we get started, I want to tell you a bit about ManpowerGroup and why we know what we know.

Through Manpower’s Access2Ability™ partnership with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS), Byron Waite, an amputee and a professional with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration, was having difficulty getting back into the workforce. Manpower placed Byron in a temporary position as an Administrative Assistant to gain relevant work experience. That assignment was followed by a temporary accountant position at the Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP). Due to Byron’s medical condition he required surgery for a below-the-knee leg amputation while on assignment. Manpower, IVRS and the DVIP worked together to make the necessary accommodations and Byron returned to work 2 weeks prior to his return date. . Due to Byron’s skills, hard work and dedication, DVIP hired Byron as their full-time Controller.
