English in Year 1 Our spellings will be linked to our Phonics phase and will go home at the beginning of each term. We also encourage children to practise the Year 1 spellings. We have high standards of presentation; children should be writing on the line and forming their letters correctly. We will start handwriting this half term as a foundation for joining after Christmas. Our text for this half term will be ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and we try to link most of our writing to this theme to give children a purpose for writing.
