Polar and Nonpolar Cl H -Electronegativity is the ability of an atom to pull or attract electrons shared between two atoms -An atom that strongly attracts the shared electrons is considered highly electronegative.
2
Polar and Nonpolar -A dipole is a molecule with two poles. We can also call these molecules polar molecules. -This kind of molecule has two partially charged ends (slightly positive and slightly negative). -The partial charges are caused by a higher electronegative element pulling electrons towards itself
3
Polar and Nonpolar -A nonpolar molecule is one that is usually symmetrical and has no partial charge. -Nonpolar molecules involve an equal distribution of charge
4
Polar or Nonpolar? 1. Which of these molecules will be polar and which will be nonpolar? 2. For polar molecules, state which side is positive and which is negative.
