8. Literature meets Science
View and listen to this TED Talk by Ellen Jorgensen, Molecular Biologist. Using the graphic organizer, complete as many of the boxes as you are able to. Notice how the novel Frankenstein still colors our view of bio-technology.

9. Frankenstein Chs. 18 & 19:
Victor returns to Geneva. His father sees he is brooding over something and thinks Victor is trying to decide whether or not to marry Elizabeth. (Clueless!)
His father sends Victor and Henry Clerval on a European vacation to give Victor time to think.

10. Frankenstein Ch. 19:
Victor leaves Henry in Edinburgh, Scotland, and travels to the desolate Orkney Isles in order to begin work on the Creature’s mate.

11. Frankenstein Ch. 19: Page 119 – bottom two lines…
The Creature is following Victor to be sure he is making a mate for him…
Lonely female creature seeks 8-feet-tall handsome male creature for long walks on the beach, attacks on unsuspecting villagers, and possible long-term relationship.

12. Frankenstein Essential Question:
Write your response to these questions on the index card: Do human beings have the right to pursue scientific exploration regardless of the outcome? If not, where are the limits? If so, what might be the consequences?

13. Exit Ticket: Turn in your index card as you leave.
