1 Euharlee, Georgia By Kali Brindley

2 This is where my husband and I just bought our first house
Why Euharlee? This is where my husband and I just bought our first house This project allows for a great opportunity to learn about our new home

3 The Land Originlly inhabited by the Native American tribe of the Cherokees Georgia formed 10 counties from the former Cherokee land, one of which was Cass County (now known as Bartow) Settlers began making what we now call Euharlee home in 1834 The town was formed where Euharlee Creek meets the Etowah River Settlers were attracted by the fertile soil and the resource of the water from the creek and river

5 the Name Euharlee was first called Burge’s Mill
This was in honor of the mill that was being built on the creek by Nathaniel Burge Burge’s Mill became Euharleyville in 1852 The town continued to grow and the population reached almost 2,300 people at this time The town did not get it’s current name until 1870 Euharlee means “She laughs as she runs” from a Native American word This refers to the sound of the creek as it flows

6 More History Formed in 1883, Euharlee is home to the oldest farming club, that has been in continuous operation, in the world The covered bridge, built in 1886, was built by Jonathan Burke and Washington W. King, son of a famous bridge builder and former slave, Horace King The population fell to only 65 people around 1970 The last census in 2014 put the population of Euharlee at 4,211 people.

7 Today Euharlee is still a small city compared to others
It is very rural but there are a lot of houses and it continues to grow There are a lot of fun things to do: along with the historical covered bridge and museum, there are a couple of parks, a public library, and the river where you can fish, kayak, and go tubing

8 I think it is important to know where you come from
i think the same is true about where you live it is important to learn and know how your town came about
