The Reformation From there were 9 official gatherings of the Church to deal with clerical abuses (church problems) Martin Luther ( ) was a very devout Augustinian monk His 95 Theses that he posted in unofficially began The Reformation

The Council of Trent (1545-63)
Over half of all the teachings from this Council focused on sacraments It declared that there are officially 7 Sacraments of the Catholic Church It took a Scholastic view of the sacraments (vs. a Magical View) It made the celebration of the sacraments Uniform, with their own Rites books

PHASE IV-PHASE V 1563 Sacraments are UNIFORMLY practiced (identical) [LATIN] 1965 DIVERSITY in the celebration of sacraments [VERNACULAR] Christianity rapidly spreads through the Southern Hemisphere

SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL
October 11, 1962-December 8, 1965 It was an ECUMENICAL COUNCIL, inviting bishops from ALL OVER THE WORLD The Catholic Church had to “open the windows and let in fresh air.” Major changes in the celebration of the Sacraments, including the use of the local (VERNACULAR) language
