1 Mitochondria and Plastids
Taylor Iverson Eli Humphrey

2 Powering the cell Mitochondria break down nutrients and use them to power the cell. They are about 1/8th of the width of a cell, and take up about 1/64th of the volume of a cell NADH is used by enzymes in the inner membrane to produce ATP

3 Mitochondrial DNA Mitochondria contain a small amount of DNA in most cells. Human mitochondria have 37 genes made from 16,569 base pairs of DNA This DNA is inherited only from the mother. No DNA from the father is inherited

4 Energy Capture and Storage
Energy rich carbohydrate molecules are used to make atp Animals get this through eating glucose Plants produce glucose using photosynthesis Atp is stored in chemical bonds

5 Cellular Respiration The process the mitochondria does to produce to release energy for the cell is called cellular respiration

6 Photosynthesis Plant cells make their own food during photosynthesis
The plant uses chlorophyll to captures the sun's energy Using the sun’s energy it makes sugar out of co2 and water They convert glucose into atp in mitochondria that powers the cell
