Genes that start and stop cell division are damaged or mutated
The cell continues to divide and a tumor develops
These tumors may interfere with normal function of organs

5. Cancer vocabulary Benign – tumor that is noncancerous
Malignant- cancerous tumor
Metastasis/metastasize – when cancer has moved
Carcinogen – cancer causing agent (mutates start/stop genes of the cell cycle)
