President Abraham Lincoln supported the transcontinental railroad They only laid about 1 to 3 miles a day Red Cloud told the Union Pacific “We do not want you here , you are scaring away the buffalo.”

Cowboys took cattle from small towns to railroad , to eastern cities Their cattle drives came to an end , because conflicts between farmers and ranchers

California was big enough to become a state Railroads made it easier to travel and export goods Railroads also helped spread the economy Levi Strauss made the first jeans

War in the West The Native Americans though they were threatened when people moved on their land The government made reservations for them Sitting Bull declared “I do not want to sell any land to the government
