The Spanish established Santa Fe & San Antonio. Their goal was to protect the area between French territory & Mexico.
Spaniards moved into California setting up missions. They attempted to convert the Native Americans to Christianity & forced them to work the land.
European rivalries followed settlers across the Atlantic.
