Figure 1 IFNλ Clears Sub-lethal Influenza Virus Infection in the Absence of a Pro-inflammatory Response A sub-lethal dose of influenza virus results in early IFNλ induction in infected epithelial cells and dendritic cells (DCs), as well as subsequent signaling to induce an anti-viral state that clears the virus with limited inflammation. In Ifnlr1−/− mice, low-dose influenza replicates to higher titer and results in earlier upregulation of IFNα/β, which subsequently induces expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines by neutrophils. Increased inflammatory cytokines result in increased immune cell infiltration and decreased lung function. Immunity , DOI: ( /j.immuni ) Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Inc. Terms and Conditions
