Cricket Dismissals The 11 ways to be given out when batting.

2 Ways to be given out. Caught – the bowler bowls the ball, you hit the ball and a fielder catches the ball on the full. Bowled – the bowler bowls the ball and the ball hits the wickets. Run out – you are attempting a run, the field throws the ball and hits the stumps before you have crossed the crease. Leg Before Wicket (LBW) – the bowler bowls the ball and it hits you on your leg guards. The umpire rules that the ball would have went on to hit the stumps if it didn’t hit your leg guards.

3 Ways to be given out. Stumped – the bowler bowls the ball, the keeper catches the ball and hits the wickets while you are outside the crease. Hit wicket – the bowler bowls the ball, in the process of hitting the ball you hit your own stumps with any part of your body. Handled the ball – the bowler bowls the ball, you hit the ball, but it is heading for your wickets so you hit it away with your hand. Obstructing the field – you interfere with the field whilst they are trying to get you out.

4 Ways to be given out. Hit the ball twice – the bowler bowls and the batter hits the ball twice. Timed out – the batsman has two minutes from the time the previous person has been given out to get themselves on the field. Retired hurt – the batsman has been injured and is unable to play on.
