5 UNDERSTANDING THE YOUTH
1.1 Who are Youth (young people)? The UN defines youth as those persons between the ages of 15 & 24 years The Commonwealth Youth Programme refers to young people as youngsters aged between 15 and 29. Although the terms youth and young people are conceived differently, they most commonly refer to adolescents and young adults between the ages of 10 and 24 Countries often use different distinctions, and "youth" can include people up to the ages of 29 or 35.

6 UNDERSTANDING THE YOUTH
1.2 Some facts about the Youth; Youth are the most dynamic section of any society and the most fascinating stage of life They are connected with all that is beautiful in life such as fashion, sports, arts, media, new technologies, fun, adventure, relationships, idealism, creativity & great dreams Youth is thought to be a transition stage between childhood and adulthood...it’s a very challenging period of time when many significant life events occur and decisions are made. It is imperative that youth be seen not just as an age, but a state of mind and attitude.

7 THE CHURCH AND YOUTH MINISTRY
2.1 The Church and Her Mission What is the Church (local)? “A church is a group of believers in Christ who meet for biblical worship, learning and mission.” Acts 2:41-47; What is Mission of the Church? Worship, Learning/edification and Witnessing for Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16) Reflection: Review your local church’s ministry in view of the Mission of the Church?

8 THE CHURCH AND YOUTH MINISTRY
Mobilizing the Church Youth for Local Mission: one of the key ministries for reaching-in and out Overview of the Ministry Also commonly referred to as youth group, is an age-specific religious ministry. Churches carry out youth ministry to involve and engage with young people who attend their places of worship, or who live in their community

9 THE CHURCH AND YOUTH MINISTRY
Why focus on the Youth Types of Youth Ministry Methodologies for Youth Ministry The Importance of Youth Ministry in the Life of the Local Church

10 1) Youth ministry is vital to helping teens integrate into the larger, intergenerational community of the church.

11 2) Youth ministry resists the status quo, helping the church stay relevant.

12 3) Youth ministry focuses on inviting those who are not already part of the church into the deeper narrative of God’s plan.

13 4) Youth ministry reminds the church that teens are not marginalized members of the body, but co-creators and conspirators in the divine work of the church.

14 5) Youth ministry helps the church focus on the way of Jesus, which goes beyond tradition, dogma, and work.

15 YOUTH MINISTRY AND THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH
What is Mission of the Church? Worship, Learning/edification and Witnessing for Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16; Mt 28:18-20; Acts 1:8) Mission of the Church and ‘‘Missions’’ What did the Disciples do to heed to the Mission of the Church of the Church? Church Planting Acts 2:42-47; 3:42; 11:25; 13:1-3; 14:21-28 Mobilizing Youth for Local Mission

16 PRINCIPLES FOR MOBILIZING YOUTH FOR LOCAL MISSION: Church Planting
4.1 Church Planting: WHAT IT IS? Church planting is the primary task of missions. All gifts and callings in the body of Christ must work together toward the planting of biblical churches. Ephesians 4:11-12 It is one thing to do mass evangelism; it is quite another to establish a biblical church.

17 PRINCIPLES FOR MOBILIZING YOUTH FOR LOCAL MISSION: Church Planting
4.1 Church Planting: WHAT IT IS? Although Satan will oppose any ministry that purposes to advance Christ’s kingdom, his greatest disdain and most forceful attack is against those who would seek to establish a biblical church in the terrain which he has claimed for himself I John 5:19.

18 PRINCIPLES FOR MOBILIZING YOUTH FOR LOCAL MISSION: Church Planting
4.1 Church Planting: WHAT IT IS? In Matthew 16:18, the Lord Jesus declared, “I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.” This text assures us that Christ is still at work in the world today, calling out a people for Himself – a people who have been redeemed by His blood and set apart for His glory and good pleasure. This redeemed body is most completely manifested to the world through local fellowships or churches that function according to the clear dictates of Scripture.

19 PRINCIPLES FOR MOBILIZING YOUTH FOR LOCAL MISSION: Church Planting
4.1 Church Planting: WHAT IT IS? Involves an individual, mother church, and/or a group of people going out to start a church for the purpose of engaging a community through gospel proclamation and demonstration. It grows in the soil of lostness (hence "planting") where men and women far from God are challenged with the claims of the gospel of Jesus Christ by a group of intentional believers. Church planting is about planting the gospel.

20 PRINCIPLES FOR MOBILIZING YOUTH FOR LOCAL MISSION: Church Planting
4.1 Church Planting: WHY? Any movement of churches that's going to be serious about reaching the lost world is going to be involved in church planting It is essential to the growth of the Kingdom and the work of Christ through His church. The key thing to remember here is that church planting is reaching lost people through the making of disciples that then gather into congregations.

21 PRINCIPLES FOR MOBILIZING YOUTH FOR LOCAL MISSION: Church Planting
4.1 Church Planting: WHY? The mission of God is bigger than church planting, but it certainly includes church planting. The church is the tool or instrument of His Kingdom agenda. If you want to change the world, and if you want to see God at work, plant change agent churches.
