EQ: What is the structure of DNA?
2
Yes, draw the pentagon .
3
Yes, Draw the circle.
4
Yes, draw the square…
5
Repeat the 3 shapes at least 2 times. You don’t have to write the words within each shape. Just draw the lines and shapes. If you wrote these sentences down, then you’re an idiot.
6
Draw 3 more at the bottom. DON’T ARGUE JUST DO IT!
7
Now, draw the shapes to the right. Take your time and do it correctly please.
9
Congratulations! You just drew an unwound DeoxyriboNucleic Acid (DNA) strand. De- means “to remove” of “without”. Oxy- means “related to oxygen”. Ribose is a 5-carbon sugar. You should know what an acid is by now…
10
The small monomers that make up DNA are called nucleotides.
11
Nucleotides are made of 1) a nitrogenous base 2) a sugar 3) a phosphate group.
12
The four different bases are Adenine (A), Guanine (G), Cytosine (C), and Thymine (T). AGCT Adenine forms 2 hydrogen bonds with Thymine. Cytosine forms 3 hydrogen bonds with Guanine.
13
The bonds between the sugars and phosphate groups are covalent bonds
The bonds between the sugars and phosphate groups are covalent bonds. The bonds between the bases are hydrogen bonds.
14
DNA structure can be referred to as a double helix – a twisted ladder with complimentary base pairs.

If one strand of DNA is GTTCACTAAC, what will the other side be? Take 60 seconds to think about it. GTTCACTAAC ????????????

NO BELL RINGER TODAY. Copy these 3 words into your notebook and then finish the work begun yesterday. Transcription: creating an RNA strand from a DNA template. Replication: Making a copy of one DNA strand using a template of DNA. Translation: converting the tRNA code into amino acids.
