3 Who Are BSA Alumni? BSA Alumni Connection is a call to reconnect and engage anyone who has been positively impacted by the Boy Scouts of America: Former Scouts Their family members Volunteers Scouters Community leaders Tens of millions of Americans who benefit from Scouting

4 Program Goals The Three Rs:
Reconnect alumni with Scouting friends and mentors as well as with local councils, districts, and units Rekindle enthusiasm for Scouting and the values it represents Re-engage alumni so they become active in Scouting again

5 Program Objectives Provide a comprehensive alumni program for the entire Scouting family Reach more than 1 million BSA alumni across the U.S. Strengthen the alumni/council relationship Boost volunteerism in council, district, and unit events and activities Create new ambassadors for local Scouting Provide opportunities to financially support Scouting

6 Program Objectives Capture stories, testimonials, and photographs from BSA alumni over the past 100 years. Engage BSA alumni at every level during the 100th Anniversary Celebration.

7 Financial Benefit to the Council
Alumni can support local Scouting through: Friends of Scouting (FOS) Endowment Day of Scouting (DOS) Program materials for Scout use Non-cash items Cash Items to be sold Items not to be sold

8 What’s In It for Alumni? There are many reasons Scouting alumni will want to participate in the BSA Alumni Connection program: Renew Scouting friendships Experience Scouting activities Create a professional network of other area alumni Get updates on what’s happening in their area Promote and support specific council programs Be part of the 100th Anniversary Celebration

Scouting alumni can vary greatly in age, geography, affiliations, and technological savvy, BSA National Council is supporting a multi-faceted approach: Promotion Strategic relationships Web site Alumni database Online scrapbook 100th Anniversary national engagements

Promotion PSAs Social media Advertisements (integrated with 100th Anniversary ads) Media outreach Strategic Relationships Partner with organizations likely to include BSA alumni Encourage Scouting alumni to spread the word through organizations they belong to Reach out to prominent alumni in business, government, sports, entertainment, etc.

15 What We Can Do There are many ways to support the BSA Alumni Connection program. Here are a few: Read the full BSA Alumni Connection program overview Visit Reach out to local organizations likely to have BSA alumni as members. Ask them to partner with us. Think of ways to integrate Alumni Connection into all council, district, and unit events.

16 What We Can Do Pass out Alumni Connection business cards or postcards at every opportunity! and/or send letters to possible alumni asking them to reconnect. Form an “alumni association” or a “friends group” for the council. Host regular meetings and social gatherings. Encourage everyone to share photos and stories through the online scrapbook.
