3 The US Ends the War US President Truman had to decide how the US would end the war in the Pacific-had two options Option #1-Land Invasion Truman’s advisors warned that half a million lives would be lost in a land invasion Option #2-Atomic Bomb Advisors believed that using the bomb would bring the war to an end in the quickest way possible

5 WWII: Atomic Bomb -the creation of the Atomic Bomb was also known as the: Manhattan Project -the Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki in August 1945 -the cloud of smoke that is created from the Atomic Bomb is called a Mushroom Cloud due to its unique shape

6 Results of WWII Nuremberg Trials: Nazis & Fascists found guilty of crimes against humanity Creation of United Nations to ensure peace & stability WWII most costly war= many European economies destroyed Communism spreads through Eastern Europe More people, both soldiers & civilians died, than any other war (due to new destructive weapons & genocide) Millions of people displaced (no homeland to return to) U.S. helps Japan recover U.S. & Soviet Union become top superpowers (Democracy vs. Communism= Cold War)
