RESPONSIBILITY Responsibility is a very big part of 4th grade.
In 4th grade, it is your child’s job to be responsible for their own things. They will have to take care of their supplies, make sure work is taken home if it didn’t get finished in class, make sure it is turned in when they bring it back, make sure they are prepared for each class by having the materials needed for the day, etc. We will teach them the procedures, but it is up to them to follow them and remember what to do. There are ways that you can help them with this. Give them some responsibilities at home. Let them pack and carry their own backpack to school. Allow them to walk to class on their own. Don’t give them excuses as to why things haven’t gotten done, ex. Ball practice, too tired to finish homework etc. Don’t take the blame if they forget to do something, allow them to receive the consequence if they forgot to be responsible.

Helps us learn responsibility of keeping up with our supplies!
Pencil Wars Helps us learn responsibility of keeping up with our supplies! 1 bag containing 8 sharpened pencils and 1 big eraser Each Friday, the bags are checked for proper contents and remaining pencils are sharpened If the bag contains all proper contents, the student will receive a small treat on Monday. If the bag does not contain all proper contents, they will receive replacements for the new week, but no treat. Try again! ***Parents, please do not replace pencils if your child comes home and says they are missing any. We will replace them and the game will continue. This is a responsibility lesson for your child.

Reading/Language Arts
Students will have one book report per nine weeks, more details will come home after we discuss this in class. Students should now have their AR level and Goal. Please contact me if your student has not shown this to you. In order for students to reach their goal they should be reading at least 20 minutes each night. I know that sports and after school activities take up a lot of students’ time, but please make sure they study vocab, spelling, and read each night. All these things can be done in the car on the way to and from games! I have a link to spelling/vocab city on my website if your students forget their words at school or can’t read their own handwriting. J There is a link on my website with scholastic book order information. I will not be sending home the pamphlets but please use that link and the class code if you do choose to order.
