Recovery Peer to Peer Support (Mentoring)

3 Why is it important? According to a WA DOC study, steady employment cuts crime by 50% (Reduced Recidivism) Safer communities on Whidbey Island To further educate the community Addicts are still human beings They feel isolated from the community They need hope Some argue addicts suffer from a disease

4 What will a volunteer do?
Help with prepare participants for GED testing College prep, financial aid, paperwork etc. Additional recovery support Take someone to a meeting Help find social services Support in finding employment Anyone willing to hire? Peer to peer mentoring Go to coffee, encourage, listen

5 will volunteers be in danger?
All drug court participants crimes are non-violent No one is forced to do anything they are not comfortable with Drug court staff will provide trainings How to maintain safe boundaries Volunteers will meet participants prior to working with them Personal address and property not disclosed

6 What is the time commitment?
We would like a one year commitment Depends on the volunteer position 1-2 hours a week More or less depending on volunteer’s flexibility
