Middle range of class Reads below grade level (DRA) Has no reading comprehension strategies Not taken out of the classroom at any time for extra help Able to understand & retell stories Able to write in complete sentences No prior knowledge of folktales or Venn Diagrams Always volunteers & participates

Low level of class Reads below grade level (DRA) Reads word by word Taken out of the class two times a week for speech help Needs practice reading and retelling a story Struggles with writing complete sentences No prior knowledge of folktales or Venn diagram Usually very quiet & does not volunteer often

High level of class Reads above grade level (DRA) Reads slowly, always makes predictions Not taken out of the classroom at any time for extra help Able to understand and retell a story Writes in complete sentences with detail No prior knowledge of folktales or a Venn diagram Poor behavior choices interfere with his learning and others, very manipulative

Characteristics common to most folktales Worksheets focusing on one or all characteristics (whole class & individual) Compare and contrast two stories using a Venn diagram Role playing good & evil characteristics Partner write to create the ending of story Presenting plays
