How Parts Interact to Make a Whole

This Organizing Idea explores the relationship of parts to a whole
This Organizing Idea explores the relationship of parts to a whole. Think about how this might relate to a puzzle.

By participating in a series of activities from all disciplines, you can discover that having the parts does not make the whole. You can see how you must work together with the other people in your group to complete the activities successfully.

Do you know what a biome is
Do you know what a biome is? You can discover the six major land biomes in this unit too!

You can also investigate the elements of culture through a study of Native Americans and the exploration and colonizing of North America.

The idea of interactions in everyday life can be studied in the Colonial Days simulation. To identify physical properties of matter, recipes from Colonial times can be used. How fun!

Finally, you can have the opportunity to create a brochure about a city that interests you that could be handed out by that city's Chamber of Commerce.

Guiding Questions: How do interactions between people and the geographical features of the land cause change? What are the interactions between living and non-living factors in our environment? What are the interactions that foster the development of a culture? How do interactions cause changes in matter?
