CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT Kindergarten students will participate in the school – wide behavior management system, called PBIS. Positive behavior will be recognized and rewarded. Students who are especially ready, respectful , or responsible will earn a feather. Feathers can be cashed in for class prizes or privileges. In order to chart daily behavior, our class will utilize a 5 color chart system. Every day students begin on green – Ready to Learn. They can progress throughout the day. Blue means good effort. Yellow means outstanding skills. Orange indicates the student needs to think about this/her actions. Red indicates the student must make better choices. Ask your child about his/her progress each day.

GRADING SYSTEM 3 progress reports a year December, March, June
Grading Scale I = Independent ( 97 – 100 ) V = Very Good Progress( ) P = Progressing ( 85 – 92 ) S = Satisfactory ( ) N = Needs improvement ( ) U = Unsatisfactory/Not Proficient ( below 70 ) NA = Not assessed at this time Keep the report. Sign and return the brown envelope. ) Assignments are sent home weekly. Usually there is a fraction grade on the assignment. Keep the assessments at home unless asked to sign and return the paper. We utilize the Super Kids reading program. It is phonics based.
Students will learn letter sounds in order to blend those sounds to form words. Students will learn how to read sentences and eventually read stories. Students will learn how to print each letter correctly. Eventually they will learn how to print words and sentences. By the end of the year most students will be able to print a 4 sentence paragraph. Please sign up for the online component of Super Kids. Information will be sent home. READING

MATH IHM school utilizes the McGraw Hill “My Math” series.
Students will develop and apply knowledge of numbers with an emphasis on counting and number recognition. We take a hands on approach, utilizing as many manipulatives as we can. In addition students will learn about geometry, measurement, patterning, addition, subtraction, and word problems. By the end of the year students should know the basic number facts up to 10 in addition and subtraction. Please sign up for the online component that accompanies our Math series. MATH

We utilize the Benzinger series, entitled “Stories of God’s Love” and the Benzinger Family Life series. Our book focuses on bible stories – both Old and New Testament. Parent notes will be sent home each week. We learn traditional prayers and learn how to pray spontaneously. Kindergarten students will attend mass and prayer services with their fifth grade prayer partners Kindergarteners participate in school outreach projects throughout the year. New this year – kindergarten participation in the parish Our Daily Bread program. RELIGION

Science Social Studies
There are no books. We follow the Archdiocesan curriculum guides. In Science we cover 3 topics in depth - Forces and Interactions: Pushes and Pulls, Weather and Climate, and Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems(living things and how they interact) In Social Studies we cover several shorter themes. We learn basic information about geography, people and nations of the world, economics, history, and civics. Science Social Studies
