Art Guide Prep: Make copies of the Master Cezanne print with the grid –1 per student. (make sure the copies are light enough to see all the details) Draw a light grid with pencil 3” x 3” onto white construction paper. There should be 3 down and 4 across. Make copies of art blurb Glue onto black construction paper Hands On Art: Give all students the Cezanne grid and a blank grid and sharpie. Have students outline all the main lines in the Cezanne picture: those are the lines that they will transfer to the blank grid. (Ex 1) Label their grid with 1-4 on top with pencil and lightly Label A B C down. (Ex 1) Use Pencil -Starting with Square A-1, transfer lines to the blank grid. It’s important that they look at where the lines fall on the grid. Don’t look at the entire shape, just the lines in block you are working on. Continue moving from block to block till all lines are transferred. (Ex 2) Go over lines with a black sharpie. *make sure they do not sharpie the grid lines! Erase all pencil lines. It should now look like a coloring page. (Ex. 3)

Finish and Display: Demonstrate how to shade with oil pastels.
First determine where the light is falling on the fruit. Outline the fruit and color in the shaded area heavier. Use your finger to smudge the rest of color and fill in the rest of the fruit, leaving white showing where the light would hit the fruit. Have students start with the fruit first and then go to the vase and plate. The table and curtain should be the last objects to color Use a black oil pastel for shadow under fruit and plate. Sign name Ex 1 Ex 2 Ex 3 Finish and Display: Make sure name is displayed on front Take outside to spray hair spray on each one. This helps so it doesn’t smudge. Glue the black construction paper with blurb to the back Hang outside classroom Revised August 2014
