4
Today’s Goal Make the tables from Thursday make sense for triangle and triangle.
5
The Triangle Could also be known as the Right Isosceles Triangle. Why?! = 90. 90/2 = 45. What is the relationship between the legs and the hypotenuse? Legs are congruent, and just multiply the legs by √2 to get the hypotenuse.
6
Example x Solve for x, y and z z 180 – 90 – 45 = x 5 X = 45
Now we have confirmed z 5 45° y
7
Example x Solve for x, y and z Y = 5 Congruent Legs Z = 5√2
Multiply legs by √2 to get hyp. z 5 45° y
8
The 30-60-90 Triangle If a = 1cm, b = √3cm, find c 12 + (√3)2 = c2
c = 2 cm.
9
Describe the relationship in words
What’s the relationship between a and b? Whatever a is, just multiply by √3 (22√3) What’s the relationship between a and c? If a = 2, c is double (4) If c = 4, a is half (2)
10
Example Solve for x, y, and z x° 180 – 90 – 60 = x X = 30° z cm y cm
Now we know x° z cm y cm 60° 5 cm
11
Example Solve for x, y, and z Y = 5√3 cm x° Multiply a by √3 z cm y cm
Double the value of a x° z cm y cm 60° 5 cm
12
Independent Practice Everyone must answer the key questions
You must then answer your choice of 6 problems from the two levels.
13
Exit Ticket Find the values for a and b, given the value of the hypotenuse: 30° 12 m b 60° a
