What is it? Dual Enrollment provides high school students with the opportunity to take college courses for both high school and college credit. Dual Enrollment Funding Eligible high school students enrolling in a participating college or university and taking approved college courses for both high school and college credit are eligible for funding through Georgia’s Dual Enrollment Program

Traits of Successful students who do dual enrollment:
Checks college regularly Replies to college s and s from high school dual enrollment coordinator promptly, within hours Understands that good communication is paramount. Understands that parents and high school counselor cannot communicate with dual enrollment professors Submits all related documents and follow deadlines.

How many DE courses can a student take per semester?
DE program will pay for a maximum of 15 semester hours or 12 quarter hours per term, regardless of the number of eligible postsecondary institutions in which the student is enrolled.

Dual enrollment course withdrawals
Dual enrollment should contact dual enrollment counselor at Archer HS for approval before any courses dropped or any schedule change is made during the semester. Should a participating DE student choose to withdraw from a college course, the high school will make its best attempt to place that student in a corresponding high school course or online credit opportunity to meet course completion and graduation requirements.

Further regulations Parent and student must sign (EACH SEMESTER/QUARTER) --Parent participation agreement, including acknowledgement of the 15 semester or 12 quarter per tem regardless of the number of eligible postsecondary institutions in which the student is enrolled. --GCPS Dual Enrollment permission form

Grading If college provides provide the high school with letter grades, the high school will transcribe the letter grade to the midpoint of the grading scale. A=95 B=85 C=77 D=72 F=55 If the student fails a class, it could jeopardize graduation! No points are added to the final grade (exception: 10 pts are added to Georiga Tech Calculus II) All dual enrollment classes are included on the high school transcript

Grade Conversion 1-2 semester hour college class= .50 HS credit
3-5 semester hour college class=1.0 high school credit Note: Science labs will receive a grade on the high school transcript but NOT any credit.

Other housekeeping items
No change to Archer HS schedule without a college schedule Student requests transcript from college and sends to Archer HS dual enrollment coordinator at end of each semester so college grades can be transcribed. If you decide to do dual enrollment full-time and have submitted paperwork to the college and the high school but do not give Archer HS dual enrollment counselor your college schedule prior to beginning of a new semester, you may be withdrawn from Archer HS for non-attendance. Student submits college schedule to Archer HS dual enrollment coordinator before beginning of each semester.

Other things to know Be aware of college deadlines, see college dual enrollment website page for updated dates and information. Be aware that the later you wait to decide to enroll with dual enrollment, you may be responsible for late registration fees. Your class schedule at the college may also be less than ideal (ex: night classes, weekend classes).
