Style an 2 reasons why (3). Calypso music. Reasons: use of steel pans; music is in a major key; use of tremolo/rolls on the instruments; moderate/upbeat tempo. Style and 2 reasons why (3).Bhangra. Reasons why: use of the dhol drum; use of the chaal rhythm; lyrics are in another language; a small range of vocal notes are used; the vocal part is very repetitive; use of a tumbi and dholak; syncopated rhythms; male vocalist. Reasons why: a raga is being played; a tala is being played; a drone is being played; tanpura (drone); bansuri (raga); tabla (tala; the melody sounds like it is being improvised.

Style and 2 reasons why (3). Rock Anthems. Reasons: electric guitar; drum kit; guitar techniques such as amplification and distortion; rough sounding vocals; falsetto vocals; moderate/upbeat tempo; loud dynamics. Style and 2 reasons why (3). Pop Ballads. Reasons: slow tempo; emotional lyrics; use of the piano; use of a slow, steady drum beat.

Homework: Due next Thursday (21st)
We will be re-testing on these 2 areas of study next Thursday. The questions/answers to the KNOWLEDGE sections will be the same. This power point will be on homework hub for you to revise the knowledge sections. The listening examples will use different extracts/may not be in the same order, but will be based on the same topics.
