State Board of Education’s Mission Statement
The guiding mission of the North Carolina State Board of Education is that every public school student will graduate from high school, globally competitive for work and postsecondary education and prepared for life in the 21st Century.

North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards
STANDARD I: Teachers demonstrate leadership. STANDARD II: Teachers establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students. STANDARD III: Teachers know the content they teach. STANDARD IV: Teacher facilitate learning for their students. STANDARD V: Teachers reflect on their practice. STANDARD VI: Teachers facilitate academic growth.

Common Core State Standards English Language Arts Mathematics NC Essential Standards Science Social Studies World Languages Arts Education Healthful Living Career & Tech Ed Exceptional Children English as Second Language English Language Development Information & Technology NOTE: English Language Development and Information & Technology Essential Standards must be delivered by classroom teachers through ALL content areas, in appropriate grade levels– in collaboration with AIG, EC, ESL, media coordinators and tech facilitators.

The Promise of Standards
These Standards are not intended to be new names for old ways of doing business. They are a call to take the next step. It is time for states to work together to build on lessons learned from two decades of standards based reforms. It is time to recognize that standards are not just promises to our children, but promises we intend to keep.
