SHIP’S Mission Services and Housing In the Province (SHIP)
To increase quality of life through health services and housing supports that promote mental and physical health and wellness

Poverty Reduction Project
This 2 year project is funded by the province under the Local Poverty Reduction Fund, and administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. It is focused on the homeless population of Dufferin , (particularly individuals experiencing chronic, episodic and hidden homelessness.)

Project Components 1. Community Partnerships Developing deeper partnerships Finding opportunities to collaborate Share resources 1. Letters of support from DC and other agencies. 2. Deeply believe in DC MOVES, and the Poverty Reduction Task Force’s collaborative approach.

Project Components 2. Research
System Map of homelessness service providers Evaluation report and project results Data collection Research and Evaluation is so critical to inform future decision making and resource spending, and for future grant applications

Project Components 3. Financial Flex Fund
Provide access to a “Flex Fund” that will assist homeless individuals in Dufferin County. Approximately $1,500 can be applied for

“what do you need to break your cycle of homelessness.”
Support will vary for each applicant based on their answer to: “what do you need to break your cycle of homelessness.”

Fund is intended as a “hand up” and as a “bridge support”
Hand UP, not hand out. Bridge support to aid someone on their recovery path.

Examples of Flex Fund Use
Some possible examples of how the Flex Fund could be used are: Housing Housing – eg. first and last month rent, bed bug free bed, utility costs)

Some possible examples of how the Flex Fund could be used are: Housing Food security Food Security – eg. (access, groceries, pots and pans),

Some possible examples of how the Flex Fund could be used are: Vocational support Vocational support - (transportation to job interviews, licensing, insurance, training course, workshops, clothing, books),

Examples of Flex Fund Use
Some possible examples of how the Flex Fund could be used are: Social Opportunities Groups that provide a break from social exclusion Social Opportunities - (groups that provide a break from social exclusion, childcare) and the needs of children (seasonal clothing, uniform, transportation and community access).
