Focus on functions and dysfunctions.
Functionalists See society as a set of interrelated parts that work together to produce a stable social system. Focus on functions and dysfunctions.

Conflict Theorists Focus on forces in society that promote competition and change. See social change as an inevitable feature of society.

Interactionists - Focus on how individuals interact in society and on the meanings individuals attach to their own and others’ actions.

Functionalists Dysfunction - Recognize that not everything in society functions smoothly or correctly. Manifest Function – intended and recognized consequences of an element of society. Latent Content – unintended and unrecognized consequence of an element of society.

Conflict Perspective Competition over scare resources is the basis for social conflict. Ex. Power and wealth

Interactionists Perspective
How individuals interact with one another in society. Focus on the role of symbols. Symbols can be anything the represents something else. Ex. American Flag Interactionists also focus on how people use symbols when interacting with one another. This is called Symbolic Interaction.
