Due to this, we can assume that customers are more open towards familiar flavors. The adaption of local flavors in this way is unique for Japan and non-existent in other countries, in which KitKat is available (Madden, 2010).

Impact of Culture on Business
It is a Japanese tradition of sending good luck messages to university and school students before the examination periods. This is the culture which Nestlé Japan has taken advantage of and made it an opportunity to promote KitKat. As KitKat partnered with the Japanese Postal Services, they created a new packaging for KitKat which could have been posted. Here people can write their message on the packaging and sent it to the person who they want to wish luck, along with a mail stamp. Moreover, many of the post offices are decorated in KitKat themes. This promotional activity has enabled KitKat to get an addition of 20,000 distributors. The most beneficial part of this activity is that it is free from other company’s competition as these channels are only used by KitKat. Additionally, this gave the company a benefit of $11 million free media exposure.
