School Uniform School Uniform
No jewellery, except stud earrings and a watch. Ensure children bring their PE kit. Please have children’s name on all parts of the uniform, including PE kit. No jewellery when swimming. Sturdy trainers Children are not allowed to wear any jewellery except a watch and stud ear-rings. Anything else, will be removed. On days when the children have P.E. – can you ensure they have no ear-rings in. Winter uniform – no polo-shirts Name on EVERYTHING! School Uniform

Swimming £10 made payable for the Coach. 4VN will begin 12/02/18
Child needs swimming hat, towel and verruca sock if they have any. No jewellery, no shampoo/soap, googles or flip flops. Trunks and full swimsuit needed.

Behaviour Children are expected to follow the school rules and the school mission statement. Golden time is given as a reward and taken away as a sanction. Dojos as a way to encourage. Children must speak English whilst in school.

Assessment Due to national curriculum changes, levels are no longer in use. Children’s progress is assessed against the expectations for each year group. Instead of levels your child will either be: Emerging Developing Expected Exceeded - Mastery

P.E. PE kits only go home during holidays.
Children need the correct footwear. No jewellery on PE days. 4CU: Tuesday (Swimming) and Thursday 4RO: Tuesday and Thursday P.E. – kept in school until holidays Trainers No jewellery during P.E. (includes ear-rings) 3OC – Monday and Tuesday 3JA – Tuesday and Thursday Sports Clubs – collect on time wear own sports clothes

What we teach Every term will be a curriculum planner on the website of what the children are learning for the whole term. We cover topics such as: Anglo Saxons, Tudors, Rivers, Rainforests, making a salad- healthy eating, sound, electricity, teeth, digestion, journey through art work, African drumming, rainforest drawing using watercolour, designing and making pencil cases plus more.

Homework Children will have an English and a Maths homework work book. They also have a spelling book. -Children will receive homework every Friday to be handed in the following Wednesday, in preparation for their times table and spelling tests. We are also introducing a ‘challenge’ when the children can choose 1 extra piece of homework to do in their spare time. This will have more of a creative focus. Homework books need to be covered. No writing or drawings on the cover of books Children must take their own pencils to school every day If the child loses their book, they will need to replace it Given on Friday – returned on Wednesday. Reading It is very important that your children are reading regularly at home. This includes reading aloud to a parent or carer, as well as hearing someone read to them. 20 minutes a day everyday. Children will have a reading journal in which they will complete tasks on the book they are reading. The journal must be signed by a parent or carer at least 3 times a week.

Times tables In year 4, it is expected that children should know all of their times tables. Please practice with your child as it will help them with their ability and confidence in maths. We are expecting a times table test in June 2019 for year 4 which will be online.

Presentation Children should take pride in every piece of work they complete. They must use their best cursive handwriting, including the date and title, which are underlined with a ruler. Presentation – Use a pencil Write the date at the top of the page and underline it with a ruler If your child makes a mistake, rub it out or put a single line through it. Joined handwriting

Internet safety It is important that children stay safe whilst using the internet. We teach the children not to share any personal information or passwords with anyone. They are also encouraged to tell an adult if they see or receive anything that makes them feel uncomfortable. We need to work together to ensure they are safe at all times.

Healthy Eating Please ensure that your children have a water bottle and a healthy school lunch each day. This includes when children bring packed lunch for a school trip. Healthy Eating Packed lunch – encourage healthy, balanced lunch Break time – piece of fruit or fruit drink. No crisps, chocolate bars, sweets Water bottle
