Séquence de perte secteur ou source prioritaire Le cycle démarre d’une position stable considérée comme ‘Normal’ ou ‘prioritaire’ et attend la défaillance de cette source pour initier une séquence de basculement vers le réseau ‘Secours’. Une fois la détection activée (perte source prioritaire), un contact de ‘démarrage de la source secours’ doit être initié. Ce contact est utilisé comme ordre de démarrage en cas d’application centrale d’énergie, mais peut ne pas être utilisé en cas d’application mettant en œuvre deux transformateurs. La détection source ‘Secours’ (seuil + temporisation) signale sa présence et initie le transfert de la position Normal à la position secours Le basculement I-II peut passer par une position 0 stable, dont le temps de passage peut être réglable (voir paragraphe commutation à temps mort).

Séquence de retour secteur ou source prioritaire Le commutateur se trouve alors en position ‘Secours’ et attend le retour (détection) de la source prioritaire pour initier un cycle de re-transfert. Cette séquence se déroule de manière semblable, et conserve l’ordre de ‘démarrage de la source secours’ fermé jusqu’à la fin de la temporisation dite de refroidissement. Cette temporisation est lancée dès re-basculement en position prioritaire. La source secours de type groupe électrogène fonctionne durant cette temporisation à vide, permettant ainsi son refroidissement progressif.
