1 Monday, October 5 Today – write in your agenda
Monday – Review – due Wed Tuesday – Review – due Wed Thursday – Field Trip Friday – Zoom project presentation due Please write this note somewhere in your agenda for this week: The last day to turn in any work (late, corrections, retakes) is THIS Wednesday, October 7, at 3:30

2 Reminder: -Field trip on Thursday. Don’t be late to school.
Any more permission slips? -Zoom Project Presentation – due Friday - Wednesday, 10/7, at 3:30 is the deadline For any work submission (retakes, corrections, Late work) -I will be here after school today from 3:30-4:15

3 Mission: We will be incredible science students.
What is a force and how does it affect the motion of an object? Today we will… -Use Newton’s Laws of Motion to explain the motion of the Zoom car Mission: We will be incredible science students.

4 Open to your Physics section
Add to your table of contents Date Title Page # 9/24 2nd Law Review 17 9/28 1st and 2nd Law Quiz 18 3rd Law Notes 19 9/29 Zoom Presentations 20 10/1 Momentum 21 10/5 Momentum/physics review (I will give you this page) 22

5 Zoom Presentations You will have Monday and Tuesday to complete the presentations. Use page 20 as your guide and please make sure that everything is included. If it’s digital (ppt, video, etc) then please it to me before Friday. We will present these on Friday. When your group finishes, then you may work on the review homework.

6 Tuesday, October 6 Answer these questions silently to yourself (don’t write): 1-When is deadline for all work/corrections to be submitted? 2-What are 8th graders supposed to bring for the food drive?

7 Tuesday, October 6 Answer these questions silently to yourself (don’t write): 1-When is deadline for all work/corrections to be submitted? 2-What are 8th graders supposed to bring for the food drive? Tomorrow Canned meat – tuna, salmon, spam

8 Reminder: -Field trip on Thursday. Don’t be late to school.
Any more permission slips? -Zoom Project Presentation – due Friday -Momentum/review – due Tomorrow - Tomorrow at 3:30 is the deadline For any work submission (retakes, corrections, Late work) -Mix it up day is today

9 Mission: We will be incredible science students.
What is a force and how does it affect the motion of an object? Today we will… -Use Newton’s Laws of Motion to explain the motion of the Zoom car Mission: We will be incredible science students.

10 Zoom Presentations Today is the last day to work on presentations.
Use page 20 as your guide and please make sure that everything is included. If it’s digital (ppt, video, etc) then please it to me before Friday. We will present these on Friday. When your group finishes, then you may work on the review homework.

11 Wednesday, October 7 10/7 Please write the question
If a book is pushing down on a table with 1N of force, how much force is the table exerting back up on the book? (hint-look at Newton’s 3rd Law if needed) Please also get out your homework (page 22)

12 Wednesday, October 7 10/7 Please write the question
If a book is pushing down on a table with 1N of force, how much force is the table exerting back up on the book? (hint-look at Newton’s 3rd Law if needed) It is pushing back up with a force of 1N Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction

13 Reminder: -Field trip tomorrow. Info coming…
-Zoom Project Presentation – due Friday – please me your presentation if it’s not digital. If it’s something that needs to be printed, print BEFORE class on Friday -Today at 3:30 is the deadline For any work submission (retakes, corrections, Late work) -Food drive – bring canned meat to 2nd hour

14 Great Skate Field Trip is Tomorrow!!

15 You will need your backpack (choice boards)
Go to your 1st hour class for attendance. Please don’t be late to school. Once dismissed from that class, go to your 2nd hour class. If you are NOT going, come to my room for your packet and room assignment. When we go out to the busses, stay with your 2nd hour teacher. Quickly line up in alphabetical order by last name so that we can check you off as you get on the bus.

16 Once we get to Great Skate, please follow directions and listen to what time we will be boarding the busses (around 12:55). I believe we start with the STEM activity. While skating please be careful. If you’ve never skated before, then use the railing until you are comfortable. Make sure to each lunch – pizza and soda will be there. If you want inline skates those are $4 extra (you pay there). You can bring your own skates but please make sure that you do not use them at school. Bring or wear socks!!

17 Mission: We will be incredible science students.
What is a force and how does it affect the motion of an object? Today we will… -Define and describe centripetal forces Mission: We will be incredible science students.

18 Page 22 At your table, go over the answers that you have. Put a star next to any questions that you aren’t sure about or need help with

19 Momentum= mass x velocity p=mv
p=mv =1200kg x 25m/s = 30,000kg m/s p=mv v=p/m =7800kg m/s /1200kg = 6.5m/s 200kg m/s - conservation of momentum – it would slow down since some of its momentum is transferred to the box If they are going the same velocity, the one with the greater mass will have greater momentum so it will take more to stop it (which means more damage to the car).

20 Both are affected by mass
If they are have the same mass, the one with the greater velocity will have greater momentum so it will take more to stop it (which means more damage to the car). Both are affected by mass Momentum is also affected by velocity but inertia is not With momentum you multiply mass by velocity; with force you multiply mass by acceleration Increase the mass or increase the velocity Before total momentum = 12,000kg x 2m/s = 24,000 kg m/s After Total momentum = 24,000 kg m/s; total mass = 22,000 kg Momentum/mass=velocity 24,000kg m/s / 22,000kg = 1.09 m/s

22 Highest point it reaches
Up fast Up but slowing down Up slowest Down slowest Down but speeding up Down fastest When tossed up Ground Highest point it reaches

23 100 N – 3rd law – for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
They act on different things If the net force is greater in that direction then it will start to move We only need to look at the forces that are acting on him – it doesn’t matter what the rock is doing Less – the ice reduces the friction so it won’t take as much force to get it to start moving

24 Read pages 54-55

25 Centripetal Force Any force that keeps an object moving in a circle
This force points towards the center of the circle Without the force, the object would be flying off in a straight line

29 On index card Please write your name
Looking for feedback on ZOOM project 3 things that you liked or that went well 3 things that should be changed for next year to improve Other ideas or suggestions?

30 Thursday, October 8 Field Trip – Great Skate No warm up

31 Friday, October 9 Please write the date and the question
10/9 How did you calculate the speed of your Zoom car?

32 Friday, October 9 Please write the date and the question
10/9 How did you calculate the speed of your Zoom car? Speed = distance / time We measured the distance from the start to finish line on track in cm. We ran 5 trials and averaged the data to determine the average time in seconds. That was then divided into the distance.

33 Mission: We will be incredible science students.
What is a force and how does it affect the motion of an object? Today we will… -Test and share Zoom projects Mission: We will be incredible science students.

34 Today You will have 12 minutes to make final preps for your car.
Fill out entry form (scoring sheet). Make sure all names go onto it. I will collect those and randomly select them to determine the order. You have 2 tries to roll cart down track. We will use the fastest time. Presentations last

35 Presentations If it’s a video or PPT will put it up on the screen for you. Hold your car and tell us about it. Share – average speed, what makes it special, how you made sure that it stopped on time but without breaking the egg How do Newton’s laws apply to your cart? Presentations no more than 3 minutes
