3. Tips for Concise Writing
Concise writing is not just about shortening sentences. It will also strengthen your argument and improve overall clarity!
Eliminate redundancies
various differences, each individual, already existing
Reduce prepositional phrases, adjectives, nominalizations, and needlessly complex words
Reduce verb phrases
have knowledge of (know), can be compared to (resemble), are indicative of (indicate)
Eliminate circumlocutions
at this point in time (now), in the event that (if), due to the fact that (because)
Use active voice
Nominalization: the use of a word that is not a noun (usually a verb) as a noun (e.g., indication, connectivity)

Bob can deduct the $23,000 for the cost of the pool at the new home as a medical expense (19 words)
Bob can deduct the $23,000 cost of the new home’s pool as a medical expense (15 words)

Author Last Name, First Initial of Author First Name. (Publication year). Article title. Journal Name, Volume number(issue number), article page range.
Article title should be in sentence case
Journal name and volume number should be italicized
Do not need to include DOI number (no points were lost on CT1)
Sources must be alphabetized
Must include 4 peer reviewed sources from the last 10 years

8. Part 3 Content Take approximately 10 minutes to review each paper
Answer the questions on the back of the worksheet sheet with as much detail as possible
Is their writing concise?? Highlight any changes that could be made to improve concision
