1 Welcome to Home APEX Learning

2 BEFORE YOU BEGIN: All students new to Apex Online Learning must view a mandatory tutorial video. The video can be accessed from our website as follows: Click on “Academics” Next, click on “Apex Tutorial Video”. It runs about 45 minutes.

3 Signing on to Apex www.apexvs.com Username wshXXXXXXXX
From your home computer, go to: **Before you do anything, click on the “Run System Check-up” bar below the sign-in ** **Be sure to enable POP-Ups through your internet browser** Username (lower case wsh and your 8-digit ID #): wshXXXXXXXX Password (5 or 6 digit birthdate): MDDYYYY Jan – Sept Birth Month MMDDYYYY Oct – Dec Birth Month

4 Your Dashboard When you sign-in you will see your “Dashboard” pop up. It will list all of your classes. In the upper right hand corner you will see your name. Click on your name and you will see a drop-down screen. Please click “My Profile”.

5 Complete your profile Very Important!!
Please add your cell phone number and an address that YOU CHECK FREQUENTLY. Hit “Save” in the lower right hand corner.

6 Opening your Class Click on the COURSE Name to open the class.
As soon as you take your first quiz, you will see a percentage under the “grade to date” column. You can click on this to reveal a “Pacing Calendar” which will show you when all of your assignments are due.

7 Pacing Calendar The Pacing Calendar is designed to help keep you on track. The dates are “cascaded” to the end of semester (or otherwise agreed upon due date). It provides you with due dates and lets you know which assignments have been turned in and which ones are outstanding. It provides a status update to inform you whether or not assignments have been completed.

8 Sample Class You will only see Unit 1. As you complete units, your previous ones will show up, but you will not see future units until you complete your current unit. You have the option of reading the text, or having it read via the computer. Go through the entire unit, and work through each assignment. Unit Tests must be turned in for all classes. Some classes require Practices, Explores, Projects, Journals, Check-ups and/or study sheets.

9 Maneuvering through Apex
You will notice that as assignments are displayed, some assignments have a little orange square box next to them (Practice, Journal, Discuss, Projects). These are the assignments that must be turned in for a grade. In MATHEMATICS, all check-ups must also be turned in. Other assignments (Study Guides) may be assigned at your teacher’s discretion. If they are assigned, they are required. ALWAYS check the icons located on the right side of your screen. These reveal additional guides, resources, and information for you to review & study.

10 End of Unit At the end of each unit, you will see a CST (Computer Scored Test) and in most classes a TST (Teacher Scored Test)... Computer Scored Tests (CST’s) may not be taken more than once. Be sure you have reviewed everything before you take your tests. They cannot be re-set. Teacher Scored Tests (TST’s) are written and are to be proctored by a parent or staff member. Parents are provided with a packet of TST’s at the beginning of the semester. When you are ready to finish a unit, ask your parent for the TST. ** Teachers may lock units or assignments until prior ones have been completed. If you find yourself “locked out” and unable to progress, please let your teacher know immediately.**

11 Turning in Assignments
Assignments should be turned in as they are completed.  Please do not “save up” assignments to turn in all at once.  Staple all pages together. Homework can be ed as a .pdf (send to your teacher, with a copy to our office assistant), or brought in to our office & logged in. Be sure to staple all pages together.   Mrs. Block will “Excuse” your work, which prevents it from showing up as a “missing assignment” on your reports. Subject line must include the Class Name, Assignment Number & Name Each assignment must have a HEADER which includes the following information. Points might be deducted if any of this information is missing: Student Name Date Class Name Assignment Number Special note for MATH: Tests must have all unit check-ups attached.

12 Check Announcements Daily!!!
This is our primary means of communicating with you, including items that are time-sensitive. Please get into the habit of clicking on “Announcements” to view the most current information. You can also set- up your account to receive s whenever new items are announced.

13 Communication A very important component for a successful experience at Home, is to please keep the lines of communication open. If you have extenuating circumstances that are preventing a deadline from being met, contact your teacher AHEAD OF TIME to see if you can work something out. With advance notice, our teachers are very willing and able to work with you! If you are struggling through a difficult passage, our teachers can offer valuable assistance. Please do not hesitate to schedule a time with your teacher when needed.
